2017 Sea Kayaking, Apostle Islands, Wisconsin

The Apostle Islands National Lakeshore is the most highly visited sea kayaking national lakeshore in the country! Sea kayakers from the US west and east coasts and all points in between travel to the area to paddle the crystal clear fresh waters of Lake Superior. What makes it so great for sea kayak adventurers is the archipelago of 22 islands (including Madeline Island) that spreads out northeast from Point Detour on the Bayfield Peninsula to the northern most point of Wisconsin.  This trip begins in Ludington, for those residing in Michigan, otherwise it starts in Bayfield, Wisconsin. It's a 3 night, 4 day paddling and tent camping adventure with a few nights in town. Photo Credit: Jessica Chamberlain

Apostle Islands Sea Kayaking Adventure, 2017

This was a fantastic trip on Lake Superior. Second time I've brought a group on this one. The weather and waves were a bit challenging but in the end it was well worth it. We had 12 of us including our two guides from Living Adventures. The trip ended with a great dinner party in the cutest little town of Bayfield Wisconsin. This will not be the last time we do this trip... just too much fun to stop going.

Backpacking in the Grand Teton National Park, 2015

The Grand Tetons are amazing. This trip started with everyone wanting to go and ended with only a few but it was a fabulous experience, even with the rain. The views were tremendous... and the trip ended with a delightful visit in Jackson, including a winery.

Sea Kayaking in the Apostle Island National Lakeshore, 2002

After the birth of my third child I wanted to do a women's trip that was entirely different from the Trips I had organized in the past. I chose sea kayaking the Apostle Islands in Lake Superior. With the help of a woman owned sea kayaking outfitter we managed to paddle to several islands, shipwrecks and beautiful quiet beaches. The trip was the almighty. Six women plus a young female guide. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves to the utmost and have an amazing bear story that will shock even the most wilderness hardy.

Backpacking in Rocky Mountain National Park, 1998

The first women's trip I led was to the Rocky Mountain National park. The quentissential location for a backpacking trip. It was glorious! My dearest friends joined me for 4 days in the Mummy range. We had a wonderful time sledding down the snow of the high peaks and playing cards in our tents on the rainy afternoons. We ended our trip with a warm celebration dinner. It was a trip not to be forgotten.

Testimonials

" I went on the Apostle Islands Kayaking Trip through BAT and I could not have had a greater time! I love the outdoors and going one new and exciting adventures but I would not have been able to do this trip without going with Jen. She makes sure you have everything you will need to succeed on your adventure and is so organized with the planning of each trip. I would highly recommend taking a trip through BAT!"

"Loved being with such a wonderful, adventurous, and fun group of people who mastered sea kayaking as a team! WE ROCKED (literally at times in those 4 footers)! Would do it again in a minute with this group! Miss you all!"

- Maggie Cassem, Glen Arbor MI, 2017

"Outdoorsy people.... My husband and I went to the Apostle islands trip over the summer through BAT. I am not a camper, not a paddler, nor an adventurous person by no mean, somehow I found myself with this fun group or people for a week, i wouldn’t trade it for anything. Jennifer Bruen is so passionate, caring, and organized, the trip was fun, adventurous, we made memories for a lifetime! Strongly recommend the adventure with BAT!"
